The economic significance of manufacturing sector comes from its “multiplier effect”.

Domestic manufacturing sector’s output stimulates economic activity in many other sectors in the country.

This important sector, however, lags behind the agricultural sector in India.

Facts that hurt- India is the only major economy where the output of manufacturing sector is far below the agricultural sector.

If the employment in India agriculture is still the largest, the blame must go to the manufacturing sector which is on steady decline in India.
